Personal Bio
Dr. Shaaban stands as a preeminent specialist breast pathologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and holds the esteemed position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.
Her journey through anatomic pathology training in Liverpool, Birmingham, and Leeds laid the foundation for her illustrious career. Dr. Shaaban furthered her expertise with a PhD in molecular pathology under the guidance of the late Prof John Sloane at the University of Liverpool.
At the forefront of breast cancer research, Dr. Shaaban has led numerous studies and contributed significantly to breast cancer trials, serving as co-investigator and central pathology reviewer. Her tenure with the NCRI Breast CSG, including a five-year chairmanship of the Translational Subgroup, underscores her commitment to advancing the field. She has authored over 110 peer-reviewed papers and contributed to seminal publications, including the WHO Blue Book for Breast Tumours 2019.
Dr. Shaaban’s leadership extends beyond academia; she spearheaded the Cellular and Molecular Pathology initiative’s clinical trials workstream and serves as a Breast Screening Advisor for Public Health England in the West Midlands. Her dedication to education is evident through her organisation of the annual multidisciplinary breast update course and her lectures at prestigious national and international conferences. Dr. Shaaban’s unparalleled expertise and unwavering commitment to progress make her an invaluable asset to the Birmingham Breast Group, enriching both patient care and research endeavours alike.
