Fat transfer or autologous breast reconstruction is an exciting cosmetic procedure that uses the patient’s fat cells instead of silicone implants to create a new breast. This procedure is typically used after mastectomy due to breast cancer treatment or to achieve a modestly sized breast augmentation.
Fat cells are removed from donor sites in other parts of the body using liposuction. After being purified, the fat cells are injected into the breast area to add volume and shape.

There are several benefits to the fat transfer technique over the use of silicon implants, including;
– A more natural appearance and texture to the breasts
– Avoidance of the risks associated with synthetic breast implants, including implant rupture or capsular contracture, which can require breast implant removal
– The opportunity for body contouring at the donor site, typically the thighs, tummy or waist.
Fat transfer is unsuitable for patients who prefer large cup sizes but offers excellent results for smaller breast sizes.
This sophisticated operation can take up to 5 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia.
You will be bruised and swollen after your fat transfer procedure and may require simple pain relief to manage your discomfort.
The fat transfer procedure requires minimal downtime, and our Wolverhampton patients usually feel well enough to return to work after a week.
Your progress will be carefully monitored at a follow-up appointment in the next few weeks.
If you are looking for breast augmentation or reconstruction and prefer modest-sized, natural-looking breasts, then this may be the ideal procedure for you.
You will discuss the procedure in detail at your consultation, when your surgeon will check that you have sufficient fat cells at the donor sites to proceed.
